Item Toxoplasmose: o que o profissional da saúde precisa saber(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) PRADO, Aline Ambrogi Franco; GONTIJO, Laís Silva; TORRES, Maria Lúcia MarcucciToxoplasmosis is a cosmopolitan disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma Gondii. In humans, it can cause blindness or mental retardation in cases of congenital transmission, and can be lethal in immunocompromised individuals. The cat is an important link in the epidemiological chain of the disease, but the main transmission mechanism for humans is the habit of eating raw or undercooked meat, in addition to eating contaminated vegetables, fruits, milk and water. Health professionals should guide the population on the ways of transmission of the disease, emphasizing that hygiene measures are essential to reduce its incidence.
