Aging is characterized by multifaceted factors, where exogenous and endogenous changes mark this phase of human development and can occur in a healthy or unhealthy way according to the way of life adopted over the years. Genetic mechanisms promote a decrease in the ability to regenerate and proliferate cells, causing a decline in organic, morphological and psychic functions, and the latter can generate mental damage of a degenerative nature, causing dementia states. The present work addressed such aspects related to old age, taking into account the role of neuropsychology as a science that addresses tools for evaluating and screening dementia and altered emotional states in the elderly.
