Item Osteosarcoma em um cão: relato de caso(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2011-05-30) CARDOSO, Mariana Três; MARSOLLA, Eduardo Henrique; ROCHA, Lívia M. S.; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio CarvalhoOsteosarcoma is the most common bone neoplasm in the small animal clinic. It can occur in the axial or appendicular skeleton, in which the latter is more frequent. This type of neoplasia is highly aggressive and metastatic, with the lung being the organ most commonly affected by metastasis. The diagnosis is based on clinical signs and symptoms, radiographic exams, aspiration cytology and confirmed by histopathology after biopsy. The treatment with the best results is limb amputation associated with chemotherapy. However, there are reports in the literature citing only chemotherapy with limb preservation, prosthesis placement and grafts. The prognosis is poor and the animal's survival varies from five to nine months.
