    Total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) is a technique that consists of induction and maintenance of anesthetic exclusively intravenous anesthetic drugs and medications in patients assigned to surgical procedures, which may be of quick or short duration. This technique has several advantages over inhalation anesthesia, such as the reduction of postoperative side effects, low cumulative effect and no environmental pollution.
