Intricate and often conflicting, culture attempts to control and standardize semiotic activities, but art challenges established standards and values. When art is questioned, it is censored, as it puts its freedom and relevance at risk. Censorship can be defined as any measure designed to impede the flow of information. Individuals can express themselves freely through cultural manifestations and artistic languages without suffering restrictions, which is guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution. They can contribute to artistic freedom.
