Item Avaliação da adaptação de ovelhas ao manejo de ordenha mecânica através do comportamento(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2007-09-30) NABI Mariana Sintoni; BOCHINI, João Carlos; DEFAVARI JÚNIOR, Antônio Carlos; OLIVEIRA JÚNIOR, Mauro; HEBLING, Mariana R.; HUCKE, Erica Elgelberg Teixeira da SilvaThe study of animal behavior is growing more and more due to the concern that exists in several countries with the preservation of animal welfare in general, and especially in production systems, as the conditions of animal breeding reflect directly on the quality of products generated by them. The relationship between animal welfare and animal production, in particular milk has been highlighted in recent studies, and the evaluation of animal welfare in milk production systems focuses on the quality of life of these farm animals and consequently the quality of the milk produced, taking into account economic, ethnic, social and environmental factors. In this way, the present research project intends to reveal the importance of behavioral studies, using sheep as an experimental model, with the objective of evaluating their behavior when subjected to mechanical milking management, electing possible indicators of well-being in these conditions as well as the interference of milking management under the maternal filial relationship.Item Avaliação do ganho de peso diário de cordeiros segundo o manejo de desmame(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2007-09-30) DEFAVARI JÚNIOR, Antônio Carlos; BOCHINI, João Carlos; NABI, Mariana Sintoni; PANATTONI, João Flávio; BALIEIRO, Cristiano Carvalho; HUCKE, Erica Elgelberg Teixeira da SilvaStudies related to animal production and reproduction aim to minimize economic losses, since the number of lambs born and weaned per female / year is directly related to the productive efficiency of the herd. In this way, the greater the amount of lambs born and weaned by sheep, the greater number of animals for sale, for replacement of matrices and for the selection of the flock. The present study aimed to evaluate lambs' weight gain in three different types of weaning management, which were: the precocious, the mixed system and exclusive breastfeeding. Among the types of management mentioned in the experiment, the mixed management group was the one that demonstrated greater advantages in relation to the others.Item Técnica para cateterização do espaço subaracnóideo em ovinos(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2007-09-30) BOCHINI, João Carlos; ALVES, Jeferson Douglas Soares; SILVA, Angélica do Rocio Carvalho; NABI, Mariana Sintoni; DEFAVARI JÚNIOR, Antônio Carlos; FELICIO, Luciano Freitas; PANATTONI, João Flávio; HUCKE, Érica Engelberg Teixeira da SilvaTechniques for collecting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in some animal species have been used for some time. However, the existing techniques present restrictions, both methodological and for animal welfare, which need to be minimized. In this way, 6 multiparous sheep (Ovis aries) of the Santa Inês breed were used to obtain CSF through a puncture of the subarachnoid space with the aid of an epidural catheter between the cervical vertebrae C1 and C2 fixed on the epidermis. After anesthetic recovery of the animals, CSF was harvested for 5 consecutive days. 3 ml of CSF were obtained per animal / day. Throughout the experimental period, the sheep did not show neurological changes, nor a sign of infection, as well as no changes in the CSF's physical characteristics. We conclude that the method for catheterization of the subarachnoid space presented above is feasible and effective for obtaining continuous CSF for prolonged periods, thus avoiding more invasive methods with the same objective.
