(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2024-10-09) TODERO, Larissa Midiane; SILVA, Lara Romero; CELOTTI, Gustavo
Whether for work, leisure or sports, the number of equines has been growing worldwide, which proves and increases the interaction of these animals with humans, as well as their importance for people's way of life and well-being. Through a retrospective data collection, this study collected data from the medical records of equines treated in the large animal sector of the Veterinary Center of the Octávio Bastos Foundation for Education University (UNIFEOB) from March 2018 to March 2023. Through the medical records, 434 animals were analyzed, with emphasis on the following data: breed, species, sex, age, weight, outcome and diseases according to the affected system. According to the statistics obtained in this study, it can be concluded that the category that had the most animals treated was that of gastrointestinal diseases, with 147 animals treated, representing approximately 33.9% of the care that occurred from March 2018 to March 2023. Right after that were musculoskeletal care, with 77 occurrences, approximately 17.7% of the total. Therefore, the objective of this research was to identify the profile of the equines and the main diseases that affected these animals treated at the veterinary center during the period analyzed.

Intussuscepção em potra mangalarga: relato de caso
(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2023-10-18) ALVES, Karolina Cupim Gonçalves; SCARPION, Lorena Bueno; PAIVA, Lívia Maria da Silva; CELOTTI, Gustavo
Equine intussusception is defined as intussusception that mainly affects foals up to three years old. The condition is invagination of the segment of one organ into another segment the same. Characterized by intense, acute and severe abdominal pain. The diagnosis can be made through complementary tests, such as collection of peritoneal fluid, rectal palpation (when possible) and mainly through ultrasound examination, which can observe the small intestine. Treatment is clinical and may be surgical, depending on the severity of the injury. In more serious cases, which present severe congestion due to strangulation of the loop, enterectomy and enteroanastomosis are necessary to remove the part of the segment without functionality and with circulatory unviability. Through this work, we propose to report a case of jejunojejunal intussusception in a filly, with surgical resolution, treated at the UNIFEOB Veterinary Hospital.

Traumatic periostitis is a periosteal inflammation that may be caused by direct or indirect trauma and may affect young and adult animals. The clinical symptoms of the disease include increased volume and lameness. Diagnosis is made through a thorough physical examination and additional tests, such as ultrasound of the digit and radiography. The prognosis is reserved to good, taking into account the time of evolution and the location of the lesion. The objective of this study is to report a case of traumatic periostitis in a male horse that was referred to the Veterinary Center (CV) of UNIFEOB, for the purpose of a surgical procedure for exostosis in the 4th metacarpal of the Left Forelimb (MAE).

(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2022-09-09) CARVALHO, Bárbara; SILVA, Letícia Ellen; CELOTTI, Gustavo; PESSINATTI, Bárbara Dezotti
Pythiosis is a disease that affects several species, however, equines are the most affected. It is caused by Phythium insidiosum, an oomycete that has tropism for swampy and hot areas, due to this, the incidence of the pathology is higher in regions and environments with the presence of water. It is characterized by ulcerative lesions of high proliferative power, intense pruritus and serosanguineous appearance. The definitive diagnosis is made through the clinical aspect and complementary exams, and its treatment can be carried out by chemical, surgical or immunotherapeutic methods, being evaluated the best for each case and, if necessary, associated. Through this work, it is proposed to report a case of pythiosis, with clinical resolution, in a horse treated at the Veterinary Hospital of UNIFEOB.

Uroperitoneum is defined as the accumulation of urine in the abdominal cavity, mostly caused by rupture of the urinary bladder, affecting young foals. The clinical symptoms of the disease include apathy, dyspnea, tachypnea, abdominal distension, discomfort and can cause death due to imbalance, due to intense uremia. The diagnosis is made through complementary exams, together with clinical examination. The complementary exams include abdominal ultrasound, blood gas analysis and laboratory tests, such as: leukogram, biochemistry, analysis of abdominal fluid and urinalysis. The prognosis is reserved and depends on the clinical evolution and degree of contamination. The objective of the study is to report a case of uroperitoneum in a female neonate, admitted to the UNIFEOB Veterinary Center, presenting dyspnea, hyperthermia, apathy and abdominal discomfort. The complementary exams were of utmost importance for the final diagnosis. Due to the time of evolution, associated with the severe degree of contamination, the patient died before the surgical intervention.
