Item Uveíte equina recidivante induzida por leptospirose(Centro Universitário da Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2004-09-30) CASTANHO, Daniele Pescantini; TUNIN, Adriana Maria Favaro; ROSAS FILHO, Adauto de CarvalhoOcular leptospirosis is also called periodic uveitis or ophthalmia in horses. Leptospirosis-induced uveitis is an autoimmune disease, that is, it is believed that there is deposition of immune complexes against the bacteria present in the eye, since it has a preference for sites with low immunological load. The disease can be detected after one or two acute episodes, or it can proceed through several acute episodes with the end result, loss of vision. Because there is no effective treatment, correct sanitary and hygienic management is necessary, since the bacteria is transmitted through the urine of rats.
