Haemonchus spp. is a nematode belonging to the superfamily Trichostrongyloidea, they are found parasitizing the abomasum of sheep and can measure about 10 to 30 mm in length by 500 μm in width. As a hematophagous, the main clinical manifestation is anemia and submandibular edema, which can lead to death. Lambs are the most affected, but older sheep can also be affected. This work aimed to correlate the erythrogram values of sheep naturally parasitized by Haemonchus spp. with non-parasitized sheep to observe the influence of this nematode on hematological values, in order to better understand the maintenance mechanisms in the host. Twenty Santa Inês sheep were used for the experiment, 10 animals naturally parasitized by Haemonchus spp. and the others 10 not parasitized.

Parâmetros bioquímicos em ovinos naturalmente parasitados por Haemonchus spp. provenientes da região de São João da Boa Vista, São Paulo

In sheep farming, one of the biggest barriers faced is worms. Of the worms that parasite the sheep, Haemonchus spp stands out. a hematophagous nematode responsible for a severe clinical picture of anemia, the worm causing the most damage to the animals' organism. This work aimed to relate the biochemical parameters: alkaline phosphatase, total proteins, glucose and albumin with the presence of Haemonchus spp. in sheep to assist in the diagnosis of the nematode, in order to better understand the mechanisms of maintenance of the parasite in the host. Twenty Santa Inês sheep were used for the experiment, 10 animals naturally parasitized by Haemonchus spp. and the other 10 not parasitized.
