Item Paralisia laringeana: relato de caso(Fundação de Ensino Octávio Bastos, 2019-09-18) GODOY, Juliana Reis; FOSCO, Maria Paula P.; SOUZA, Mariely Thaís de; MALANDRIM, Patrícia; RODRIGUES, Talita Oliveira; SOSSAI, Vinicius; ALBERTO, Maryna Lança V.Laryngeal paralysis consists of reduced abduction movement of the arytenoid cartilages during inspiration, resulting in obstruction of the anterior airways. It is related to nerve and/or muscle dysfunctions. Most of them have an idiopathic description. The main symptoms are: dyspnea, inspiratory stridor, vocal alteration, choking and coughing after food or water intake. The diagnosis is confirmed by laryngoscopy, with the animal under light sedation, so that laryngeal reflexes are maintained. The treatment is surgical and the unilateral lateralization of the arytenoid cartilage is the technique of choice. The work in question describes a case of laryngeal paralysis in an 11-year-old male Labrador Retriever.
